Summary

Mr. Hogan, a staff member, told the Senate committee on Oct. 12 that document 52-72 would repeal a regulation that duplicates state statute and would set continuing-education requirements for opticianry licensees.
The regulation would remove the previously duplicative text, specify which professional organizations may approve continuing-education curricula, permit one of four required CE hours to cover practice or retail management, prohibit the use of law courses from other states for CE credit, and create a temporary waiver for licensees living overseas to meet their obligations as licensees.
Holly Beeson, representing the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR), attended to answer questions about the package. Committee members asked no substantive questions during discussion. The chair then called for a motion; the committee moved, seconded and reported the regulation favorably by voice vote.
The committee also noted at the start of the session that one proposed document (long-term health care administrators) had been withdrawn voluntarily by the agency and, per Administrative Procedure Act rules, would not be refiled this year but may return in 2026, according to Hogan.
The regulation will next be handled according to the committee’s usual process for reported regulations.
