Sweetwater Authority adds associate engineer title, adopts revised salary schedule

Staff recommended changing the proposed title from “Associate Civil Engineer” to “Associate Engineer” to avoid implying that the position requires a professional engineering license. The general manager explained the position replaces a principal engineer role at a lower pay grade to create a more junior entry point and to allow career advancement into more senior engineering roles.
Staff said the revised salary schedule and resolution also contain CalPERS-required language. Committee members asked about current vacancies in engineering roles; staff reported two to three engineering vacancies including an engineering manager and the director-level engineering position and said recruitment will begin immediately for the new associate engineer title.
The mayor moved to adopt the change and resolution; another director seconded. Roll call votes were recorded: Director Martinez — aye; Director Morrison — aye; Director Yamani — aye. The motion carried unanimously.
Staff noted the board meeting date referenced in the resolution may be adjusted to match the exact meeting date for formal adoption; staff said they would ensure the resolution language matches the meeting date when finalized.
