LHS cafeteria renovation on track for spring break switch; $2.3 million spent so far, district shows photos

CHSD 128 staff presented an update on the Libertyville High School cafeteria renovation at the Feb. 10 Facilities & Finance meeting, showing photos and reporting $2.3 million spent to date on the project.
Project manager Mark said the project team is targeting re-opening the back-of-house kitchen after spring break and has ordered equipment and begun early investigations (opening walls and ceilings) to surface potential issues early. He said contractors will run a second shift and perform night hauling where needed to regain schedule time and that some short-term noise and logistics will be managed to meet the opening objective.
Mark said the district coordinated with cafeteria staff, the vendor and school leadership on menus and operational setup for the final weeks of school. He asked trustees to defer group tours until after critical finishes and transitions are complete but said the board can arrange an individual or small-group visit after the spring-break switch.
In addition to the cafeteria update, staff presented recommended summer capital projects including asphalt and concrete work at LHS and Vernon Hills and safety-netting replacement at the LHS varsity baseball field; staff estimated total summer work around $4.6 million and said specific bids will come to the board for approval at the next meeting.
Ending: Staff offered to arrange board site access after spring break and promised monthly updates on schedule and costs; trustees asked to include a site visit on a future agenda once the kitchen is operating.
