LHS cafeteria renovation moves toward back‑of‑house opening after spring break; several summer capital bids recommended

Mark (district facilities staff) said equipment has been ordered, contractors are accelerating work with second shifts and that the project team worked with cafeteria staff and the principal to prepare menus and workflow for the last eight weeks of school. The district reported approximately $2,300,000 spent so far on the LHS cafeteria project.
Staff offered to arrange a site visit for board members after the spring‑break switch‑over; some board members preferred waiting until after the kitchen is operational for a public tour.
On summer capital work, staff recommended award of asphalt and concrete contracts for LHS and Vernon Hills High School. The recommended package (base bids plus certain alternates) for Vernon Hills would come to $1,000,044 in construction with total project costs including design of about $1,100,000; other alternates were deferred to future years. Staff estimated total summer project work at about $4,600,000.
Staff also presented a recommendation to replace the safety netting at the LHS varsity baseball field at an estimated cost just under $53,000.
No final board votes on the contracts were recorded at the committee meeting; staff said formal approvals would be presented at the full‑board meeting in a couple of weeks.
