Spring events and wayfinding progress highlighted as city ramps up park activations

City staff briefed the commission on upcoming spring events and on wayfinding-signage work March 11.
Events: staff listed several spring activities: a teen flashlight egg hunt at Jeanne Hanson Park, a children's egg hunt at Centennial, and an April volunteer appreciation event. Big Truck Day, movies and summer music series were referenced as staples of the coming season; staff asked commissioners to help publicize and, where appropriate, volunteer. Community liaison Nicole Weedy and staff member Miles were identified as event leads.
Wayfinding signage: staff reported that wayfinding signs (green pedestrian wayfinding) are about halfway through system-wide installation and that additional panels may need to be ordered. Staff said the signs will include directions to parks and downtown amenities.
Other items: staff reiterated that parks staff are lean and that volunteer support and grant funding help stretch budgets. Commissioners asked to be notified of volunteer and outreach opportunities and agreed to assist with outreach and grant review where feasible.
No formal votes were taken on events or signage at the meeting.
