A Town of Babylon resident asked town officials to investigate frequent airplane noise near Republic Airport and recurring flooding on Watkins Street during the meeting's open public comment portion. The town directed staff to provide contact information for filing noise complaints with the New York State Department of Transportation and to have the Department of Public Works inspect the flooding location.
Evangelise Littrell, speaking during the open portion, said neighbors were disturbed repeatedly by aircraft at many hours, and asked whether there is a cutoff time for flights. "They're up there driving, flying 9 in the morning, 10, 2, 3, 4, 5 in the morning. Can you investigate? Is there a cutoff time for the planes?" Littrell asked.
Supervisor Schaeffer (presiding) responded that aircraft noise and related restrictions are governed by the New York State Department of Transportation and said staff would provide the agency's noise-complaint phone line. He also said Nunzio Russo, who works in the town planning department and attends monthly Republic Airport Commission meetings, would be asked to put the complaint on the Commission agenda and to share contact information for residents.
Littrell also raised flooding on Watkins Street after heavy rain, noting residents at "7 Watkins Street" had complained about standing water. Supervisor Schaeffer referred the matter to Vinnie Piccoli of the Department of Public Works, saying DPW would send someone to inspect the street.
Also on the record, the transcript shows Anthony Mignon submitted a packet for the town board minutes; the board clerk accepted the packet for inclusion.
No formal motions or votes were recorded on these items in the transcript; the actions taken were staff follow-up directions to provide contact information and to inspect the flooding site.
