Parks staff said the city is partnering on construction of six new tennis courts at the new recreation-center site and that, once those courts are open, the department will consider retooling or repurposing the older courts located behind the high school.
"On 6 courts at, the new rec center site. Once those open, we will look at retooling our tennis courts, to something else," a staff member said. Staff noted prior quotes to resurface older courts were high and that the city partnership will provide new courts for community and school use.
Staff also said the broader area behind the high school is part of a phased plan. "This is phase 1 of that and then we can, once then our tennis teams have somewhere else to go, then we can really focus on that area behind the high school," a board member commented, referring to longer-range site improvements that may include ball fields and other amenities.
No contract awards were made at the meeting; staff said updates on the rec-center design and an anticipated tennis-court bid will be presented at a future meeting.
