Council authorizes purchase of two portable burn structures for fire training

The Tyler City Council authorized the city manager to execute a contract with Lone Star Tactical Buildings LLC for $129,712.86 to purchase two portable Class A burn structures for the fire department.
Chief Cobble described the need: the portable burn structure purchased after the main burn building was declared unusable contained only one burn area, but the state requires two burn areas for firefighter licensing. The new purchase will provide the required second burn area and additional search-and-rescue training configurations. Chief Cobble said the units are moveable, allowing them to be relocated when the department moves the training center.
Chief Cobble told the council that funds for the purchase had already been approved in the FY2024–25 budget. Councilmember Curtis moved to approve M1; Councilmember Nichols seconded. The motion passed on a voice vote.
The contract is for the purchase of two fire Class A portable burn structures pursuant to RFQ 25-014. Council did not discuss a vendor protest or alternatives on the record.
