Erie trades board reinstates lapsed master license, approves exam eligibility and denies multiple applications

The Erie Trades Licensing Board on March 4, 2025 approved reinstatement of a lapsed City of Erie Master Electrician license for Brian Law, allowed one plumbing applicant to sit for the journeyman exam, approved another application contingent on corrected verifier paperwork, and denied two applications for insufficient verified hours or missing signatures.
The board considered a letter of intent from Brian Law asking to reinstate a Master Electrician license that lapsed in 2022. The board was told Mr. Law’s license had been lapsed since 2022 and that reinstatement would require payment of back fees totaling $1,500. Mr. Armstrong, a member of the trades board, moved to require payment of the back fees and to renew the license; Mr. Bretz seconded the motion and the board approved it.
During the meeting the board reviewed plumbing applications. The board found that one applicant, identified in the packet as Kelly Jeridine (reported as having served an on‑the‑job apprenticeship with David Winston), had the required hours and verifier information to qualify to take the journeyman exam. A board member moved to allow the applicant to take the exam; the motion was seconded by Mr. Armstrong and the board approved the application.
The board reviewed an electrical application for Sean Schreiber and concluded the file lacked proper verification and that Erie does not reciprocate the specific verification shown from Allegheny County. Mr. Reeves moved to deny the application; the motion was seconded and the board approved the denial.
Another application (presented as missing initials/signatures on a notarized verifier page) was approved only after the board voted to make approval contingent on the applicant returning the verifier page with required initials. A board member moved to approve contingent on corrected paperwork; Mr. Penitzky seconded and the motion passed. The board clarified the corrected documents do not need to return to the board for reapproval once the code office confirms the paperwork is complete.
The board also considered the application of Jonathan McLeod for an electrical journeyman/master credential. Board members noted Mr. McLeod’s employment history indicated he lacked the required time working under a licensed master for the necessary period because the contractor he worked for (referred to in the discussion as Shelcam) had not held a master contractor status for the full time claimed. Mr. Reeves moved to deny the application citing insufficient time under a master; Mr. Ziwi seconded and the board approved the denial.
