Radcliff opens sealed bids to remodel Fire Station 2; low bid from Riverview Contracting

Radcliff city staff opened sealed bids March 4 for remodeling Fire Station 2 and reported Riverview Contracting submitted the low bid of $198,366.26. Council members were told the city budgeted about $165,000 for the work and that any contract award would require a later budget amendment to cover the difference.

City staff said the bids were publicly opened in the council room and that four bids were received. “The first bid we received was from Riverview Contracting for $198,366.26,” City staff reported. Other bids, as read into the record, included Helm Construction for $206,500, Skyler Construction at about $227,800, and Bell Construction at a higher amount listed during the bid opening.

The work was described as the same scope previously discussed: converting Station 2 (built in 1988 for volunteers) to better serve a mostly paid department, including facilities to accommodate female firefighters. Fire Chief Jamie told the council the station will be out of service during construction and said Riverview — a contractor already working at the police department — indicated it could begin ordering materials ``within 2 weeks of the approval.''

Council members and staff agreed they could not vote on the contract during the work session. City staff asked that the item be placed on the council meeting agenda on Tuesday for formal approval, with any needed budget amendment handled during the city’s budget process. Staff noted some previous in‑project changes and said those had been handled in part by in‑house work.

Next steps: staff will place a contract award item on the council meeting agenda for formal approval and will return with a recommended budget amendment to cover costs above the current line item.
