Council holds public hearings on land-use amendment and Progress Drive mapping; first reading to restrict water-skiing in Fox River

The Oshkosh Common Council opened public hearings March 11 on two land-use items recommended by the Planning Commission and conducted a first reading of a water-activities ordinance.
Planning staff and the Planning Commission recommended approval of Ordinance 25-83, a comprehensive land-use plan amendment to change the designation for the property at 1705 Oshkosh Avenue from light-density residential to neighborhood commercial. No members of the public came forward to speak; the council closed the hearing and scheduled the item for second and third readings.
Councilors also held a public hearing on Ordinance 25-84, which would delete the officially mapped Progress Drive from its existing southern terminus southeasterly to Vinland Street. The Planning Commission recommended approval. No speakers registered; the council closed the hearing and directed that the item return for further readings and action.
Separately, the council took first reading of Ordinance 25-102, amending section 17-29 of the municipal code to prohibit water skiing, wakeboarding, aquaplaning and similar activities in the Fox River within Oshkosh city limits. That item was presented as a first reading only; no final action was anticipated at the March 11 meeting and the ordinance will return for further consideration.
