Warner High student: National Honor Society, Rising Phoenix college credits and co-ops highlighted

Derek Devona, a sophomore serving as Warner High School’s student representative, briefed the board on recent student activities and academic opportunities at Warner High.
Devona said a five-student Warner team placed fifth in a local National Ocean Science Bowl (Sturgeon Bowl) competition in Milwaukee and that Warner’s National Honor Society members are assembling Easter baskets for a local assisted-living center and offering peer tutoring services. He described a recent Warner Women in STEM collaboration in which students interviewed local female STEM professionals by Zoom.
Devona reported work-based learning and co-op placements: two new students started co-ops at Rockline and Polyfab, and about six students will travel to Lakeland University for a work-based hiring event and apprenticeship information. He said the school will tour Koehler Company’s manufacturing facilities later this month to meet STEAM professionals.
On dual-enrollment and academic outcomes, Devona said Warner participates in the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay’s Rising Phoenix program and that students currently have an average GPA of 3.5; he also said 10 students are on track to earn an associate degree this year and that “over the last couple years the students have accumulated 757 college credits.”
Devona closed by noting upcoming assessments (preACT and ACT) and arts activities including a mural and other student projects.
