Board approves guaranteed maximum price for new Brunswick high school; district says contract is on budget

The Brunswick Board of Education voted Feb. 25 to approve Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) 06 for the district's new high school project (project number SFC230494.01), moving the main construction contract forward.

The motion to "approve GMP 06 for New High School, project number SFC230494.01" was made by Missus Dressler and seconded by Missus Mullen; the motion carried on a roll-call vote in which board members voted aye. A staff speaker described the GMP as the principal construction contract negotiated with the district's construction managers and said the contract places risk for cost overruns with the contractor and that the GMP is within the project budget, in part because of the district's partnership with the state.

The presentation to the board emphasized that the GMP is a large, detailed document establishing the price and terms under which the construction manager will build the new high school. The staff speaker said that while change orders or adjustments can occur during construction, the current GMP is "on budget" and aligns with the state-approved funding parameters.

Board members asked procedural questions and then approved the motion; a roll call recorded unanimous support. The board previously discussed early-site work and smaller change orders at the same meeting, which had been approved separately.
