El Segundo teachers, high school interns and community partners highlight Eagles Nest preschool and after-school programs

She described cross-age partnerships: El Segundo High School students are interning at the preschool, middle-schoolers run STEAM projects and high-school "workability" students gain job experience and modest compensation while supporting younger students.
The Learning Connection (TLC) after-school program offers ELOP-funded enrichments and academic-recovery opportunities. Grijalva detailed offerings including KiwiCo STEAM kits, teacher-led clubs (t-shirt printing, jewelry making), garden projects and a planned RC car track the middle school team will build using donated materials. She also highlighted cooking classes, weekly music and collaboration with the district's TK and kindergarten classrooms.
Board members and staff praised the program's community ties and teacher continuity. The board noted long-term staff contributions, including Mary Jo's years in preschool, and welcomed continued partnerships between sites and the Ed Foundation.
Ending: Grijalva said the program will finalize a TLC graduate profile for publication and share it with the high school for printing; the board received the update with no formal action requested.
