Monroeville awards $401,892.68 signal project, approves subdivision of authority property

Monroeville Borough Council on March 11 unanimously approved a $401,892.68 contract for a traffic signal and related driveway work and granted preliminary and final subdivision approval for two authority-owned parcels on Old William Penn Highway.
The signal project award addresses a municipal driveway and signal replacement along Monroeville Boulevard (project no. 25-1-TS). Manager Graziani told council that the low bidder, Bridal Technical Services, Inc., is qualified and that most of the project is grant-funded with the municipality responsible for about $94,000.
Manager Graziani said the project will replace an older strain-wire signal with mast arms, add a left-turn signal (a lagging green/flashing yellow configuration similar to nearby intersections) and that signal poles take about 16 weeks to manufacture, placing construction likely in the fall. “The low bidder is qualified, and it’s been reviewed by the staff and engineer,” Graziani said.
Council also approved preliminary/final subdivision of Tax Parcel 637S-232 into Lot A (8.57 acres) and Lot B (0.96 acres) in the S-Conservancy zoning district; the smaller lot appears to be under agreement for sale, the borough manager said.
Votes at the meeting were recorded by roll call and the motions passed with unanimous “ayes.” The borough packet notes that the majority of the signal project cost will be covered by a grant; the borough share is approximately $94,000.
The council packet described the subdivision approval as pursuant to Monroeville Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance No. 2,525. No public opposition or substantive amendments were recorded during the meeting.
Looking ahead, staff estimated manufacturing and construction timing for the signal (about four months for signal poles) and confirmed the subdivision is moving forward with a planned sale of the smaller parcel.
