Washington County commissioners approve proclamation, permits, replat orders and grant resolution in routine business

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Texas — Washington County Commissioners Court on Tuesday handled a series of routine approvals, including a proclamation for colorectal cancer awareness month, rental contracts for the county expo, two subdivision replat orders, formal notice for a waterline installation on Colvin Road, an indigent defense grant resolution and payment of the county's accounts payable.

Proclamation and public testimony The court unanimously approved a proclamation proclaiming March 2025 as colorectal cancer awareness month. Miss Casey Murphy introduced her daughters; her oldest, 13-year-old Parker Murphy, read a prepared statement honoring her grandmother (Gigi) and urging timely colorectal screening: "I want to honor my Gigi's memory and keep any other family from feeling that pain ... This is why getting screened for colon cancer as soon as possible ... is best."

Expo rentals and minutes The court approved seven pending Washington County Expo rental contracts for events the county described as a graduation party, a wedding, a book sale, two ranch riding shows, a drive-through fundraiser and a Christmas breakfast. The court also approved the commissioners court meeting minutes for February 2025 after the clerk noted corrections and additions had been made.

Subdivision replat orders County planning staff presented two replat requests and recommended approval. The Timber Bridge Subdivision replat combines Lots 22 and 23 into a new Lot 22A of 6.205 acres; staff said required public notice and mailings within 200 feet complied with Texas Local Government Code requirements. The Rolling Creek replat combines multiple lots into proposed lots 26A (21.229 acres) and 25C (16.124 acres); staff said there are no changes to public right-of-way or parks and that notice requirements were met.

Public notice for Colvin Road waterline County staff described a proposed 2-inch waterline extension across the Colvin Road right-of-way in Precinct 3. The extension length was given as 485 feet, with one 160-foot segment to be bored rather than open-cut because right-of-way is narrow in that area; staff said easements are being obtained for most of the route and the work meets county requirements.

Indigent defense grant and accounts payable The court approved a routine resolution for the 2025 indigent defense grant program and then approved accounts payable as presented. The finance summary in the meeting said the bills to be paid totaled about $370,001 (transcript contains a partial transcription of the amount); the speaker noted a sizable repair on a county vehicle for which the county expects partial insurance reimbursement.
