The City of Greenacres honored resident Delia Campos at its Feb. 2025 council meeting after the Palm Beach School District’s adult and community education program recognized her with a Student Success Award.
Fred Barch, director of Adult and Community Education for the school district, presented the certificate and described Campos as the program’s most experienced student. Barch said Campos, 87, has attended English classes three days per week since arriving in the United States in February 2013 and participates regularly in the Greenacres Community Center’s activities.
On behalf of the city, the mayor and council presented Campos with a certificate recognizing her dedication to lifelong learning. A student in Campos’s class spoke at the meeting, thanking the teachers and saying the classes helped students “communicate with my family, especially with my children.”
Why it matters: the recognition highlights local adult-education programming and community engagement at the Greenacres Community Center.
The council’s presentation included brief remarks about Campos’s family — Barch said she has two daughters, seven grandchildren and six great-grandsons — and praised her participation in dancing, painting and other center activities. The council did not take formal policy action on adult education at the meeting.
