City manager announces Duke Energy partnership, street sign replacements and community programs

The city manager told the Longwood City Commission on Feb. 3 that the city has partnered with Duke Energy to offer energy-efficiency workshops and in-home assistance to residents, and that staff will advertise the program and invite residents to informational events.
"The city has partnered with Duke Energy in a program that's going to be offered to our residents. It's going to help them become more energy saving conscious, have some workshops, and eventually some of our in need residents will be able to take advantage of some programs that are going to get some cost effective, and energy efficient tips by having Duke Energy come into our residents homes," the city manager said.
The manager also reported a range of community and staff initiatives: the city was approached by homes.com to create a feature article (the portal was described as the second-largest real-estate website by traffic in the U.S.), replacement of street-name signs along Ronald Reagan as a major thoroughfare, and a recruitment-video partnership with Seminole State College’s digital cinema and production team that will involve the police and fire departments.
Staff reported community engagement outcomes and upcoming events: the city’s Valentine card drive coordinated by staff member Leanne produced more than 530 cards for delivery to hospitals; Longwood Babe Ruth opening day is Feb. 8 with current spring registrations at 383; and staff noted they will place water fluoridation on a future meeting agenda for discussion. City clerk’s office also announced ribbon-cutting schedule updates: Strickland Brothers ribbon cutting moved to Feb. 13 at 4:30 p.m., and a Seminole County Chamber ribbon cutting for Tule Kingdom is scheduled for Feb. 12.
