Longwood commissioners approve interlocal opioid-settlement agreement, confirm Parks & Rec nominee; consent agenda passes

Longwood City Commission on Feb. 3 unanimously approved an interlocal agreement with Seminole County to direct pooled opioid settlement funds toward emergency medical services response, confirmed a Parks and Recreation Advisory Board nomination and approved the consent agenda, all by 3-0 votes.
The actions were taken with little discussion. Commissioner Abby Shoemaker moved to approve the interlocal agreement identified on the agenda as item 12a; Commissioner Tony Boney seconded. The city clerk recorded yes votes from Commissioners Tony Boney, Commissioner Morgan and Commissioner Abby Shoemaker; the motion passed 3 to 0. "Mister mayor, I move to approve consent agenda item regular business 12 a," Shoemaker said during the meeting.
The commission also approved the consent agenda items (10a and 10b) after a motion to approve was made and seconded. The roll call recorded all three commissioners voting yes; the clerk announced the consent agenda passed 3 to nothing.
Earlier in the meeting Commissioner Tony Boney nominated Abdullah Gazzaway to fill the District 2 opening on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The commission took a voice vote; the clerk and presiding officer announced "the ayes have it" and congratulated Gazzaway after the matter passed.
Public participation on the agenda included one sign-up, Judy C. Bohnstadt, who declined to speak and instead provided written comments to Commissioner Morgan.
No ordinance readings or contested items were debated at length on the record during the meeting; the approved interlocal agreement and the appointment were the principal formal actions recorded.
The commission’s next regular meeting agenda, as noted by staff, will include a discussion of water fluoridation for the city’s water supply.
