WDIC approves January minutes and moves to appoint Carmen Arroyo; appointments still require final legislative approval

The Tompkins County Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Committee approved minutes from its January meeting and voted to forward the appointment of Carmen Arroyo to the advisory board.
Veronica Pillar, county legislator and chair of the committee, called for a mover on the January minutes. Robert Brown moved the minutes and Rachel Graham seconded; the committee conducted a voice vote. John Halachik abstained "as a matter of form" because he was not a committee member at the time of the January meeting; other members voted yes and the minutes passed.
The committee then considered the appointment of Carmen Arroyo, a long‑time Office of Human Rights employee who said she has worked in the office for more than 22 years. Rachel Graham moved the appointment and John Halachik seconded. The committee voted by voice; participating members recorded unanimous support for placing Arroyo’s appointment on the docket for the Budget, Capital & Personnel Committee and then the full legislature. Veronica Pillar said Arroyo must take an oath of office after legislative approval before becoming a formal voting member.
No additional discussion items changed the outcome. Committee members were notified that the appointment will be reviewed at the March 13 Budget, Capital & Personnel Committee meeting and then at the April 1 legislative meeting.
