The Tompkins County Health and Human Services Committee on Feb. 19 approved advisory board appointments, accepted departmental state-aid adjustments and authorized a contract change for primary prevention services.
The committee approved three advisory-board appointments (agenda item ID 13090): Randy Brown to the Recreation Partnership Board (term to 12/31/2025); Tom Deliria Dilara to the Community Mental Health Services Board, Mental Health Subcommittee (community member, term to 12/31/2028); and Nassim Varga to the Human Rights Commission (commissioner, term to 12/31/2027). The committee moved and seconded the item and voted to approve the appointments without recorded dissent.
The committee also authorized a contract change for the Whole Health Department to contract directly with the Rural Health Institute of New York for primary prevention services (agenda item ID 13109). County staff said the change shifts funding previously planned for administrative oversight by CARS and Cayuga Health System into direct prevention services. "Oasis did initially approve that but then sort of moved back on that because they felt that the money allocated to CARS and Cayuga Health to provide the service for administrative oversight would be better served as in direct primary prevention services," a Whole Health presenter said. The committee voted to approve the authorization.
Social Services and Youth Services budget adjustments passed as well. The committee accepted a Safe Harbor state-aid allocation (agenda item ID 13030) of $30,000 for the county's CSEC critical team; the presenter noted this is $10,000 less than the prior year and that the local contract is mainly with the advocacy center. The committee also approved final state-aid adjustments for Youth Services (agenda item ID 13104) after receiving updated figures from OCFS.
The meeting also recorded approval of minutes from the Jan. 15 committee meeting.
