Ithaca airport reports passenger growth; United moves Newark service to Dulles in March

Airport staff told the Facilities and Infrastructure Committee on Feb. 20 that passenger enplanements are rising and that United Airlines will shift its Ithaca service from Newark to Dulles beginning March 30, 2025.
"Emplanements from last year are up 12% from 2023 and 22 percent over 2022 numbers," Josh (Airport) said. He explained the United hub move will initially replace Newark flights with Dulles flights (two flights initially, with a third planned in August), which airport staff called a better long-term connection because Dulles provides improved connectivity and is less prone to East Coast weather disruption.
Josh also updated the committee on airport projects: the RFSRE building remains in the capital improvement program with consultant work ongoing; a new tenant, Second Landing Cafe, has begun service ramp-up and will soon provide food and coffee on the Shakir side; and airport staff will attend an industry conference where Josh will present on 139 inspections for small hubs.
The committee earlier approved a resolution to move the airport's terminal paid-parking system to a web-based vendor-hosted platform to modernize payments and allow remote operations.

Airport staff said they continue airline outreach, are pursuing strategic marketing with Cornell and other partners, and will bring a draft strategic plan and a progress update on the airport master plan to the committee when available.
