Resident urges commission to require attractive design for proposed Walmart remodel

Troy Kent, identified in public comment as a County Councilman and Ormond Beach resident, urged the City Commission to hold a high design standard for a proposed Walmart redevelopment that will come before the commission as a special exception.
Kent said he attended a community meeting where Walmart previewed proposed changes and told commissioners he wants Ormond Beach to insist on an attractive façade: “Ormond Beach should not have the ugliest Walmart in the state of Florida,” Kent said, and he encouraged commissioners to hold the retailer to the highest aesthetic standard rather than accept a “paint by numbers” appearance.
Kent said Walmart has operated in Ormond Beach for more than three decades and that residents deserve a competitive, well-executed design. No formal application or city action on the project was before the commission at the meeting; the comments were offered during the public-comment period.
