Committee selects Johnsburg sewer project for $1 million Empire State Development infrastructure application

The committee voted Feb. 28 to sponsor a $1,000,000 application under the New York State Empire State Development County Infrastructure program for the Town of Johnsburg sewer project.
Staff recapped that the state program allows counties to request either $500,000 or $1,000,000 with a 50/50 match requirement for infrastructure that supports housing or other economic development. The county solicited projects from municipalities and received two proposals: a sewer project for the Town of Johnsburg and water infrastructure to support a proposed roughly 400‑unit housing development on the former Ramada site in Lake George.
Committee discussion focused on shovel readiness and timing. Several members said Johnsburg’s sewer project is further along and that acting quickly was important because available state funds appear under‑subscribed. One committee participant said the county should pursue the Johnsburg sewer project to “get in the front of the line.” Planning staff noted other funding sources and potential LDC support could complement the application.
The committee voted to sponsor the $1,000,000 Johnsburg sewer application and directed staff to submit the application. The motion passed by voice vote.
