The Economic Growth and Development Committee voted Feb. 28 to formalize acceptance of a New York State Department of State (DOS) Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) grant and to request establishment of a capital account to receive the funds.
Planning staff said the BOA award had been announced previously but needed two formal actions at the committee level: a resolution authorizing the county chairman to execute the grant agreement and a referral to the finance department to create a capital account. Staff said the award letter is already in hand.
According to staff, the BOA award amount is $100,000 and the total project cost is approximately $111,000; the planning department will supply the local match calculation. The BOA work will include an area assessment and an inventory of vacant or underutilized properties that may be contaminated and could be part of the county’s housing strategy.
The committee approved both actions by voice vote. Staff will proceed to execute the grant agreement and work with finance to establish the capital account so the project can begin.
