Mayor David Holt and the Office of Innovation presented a proclamation recognizing Oklahoma City’s achievement of the What Works Cities 2024 Silver Certification from Bloomberg Philanthropies and Results for America.
Kelly Williams of the Office of Innovation described the certification as a benchmark of foundational data practices that help cities use data to guide decisions. The city cited recent steps including establishment of a data governance board, a data stewardship program and a citywide data inventory. Mayor Holt highlighted concrete examples of how data informs policy, saying crash and fatality data helped identify a small number of intersections that cause a disproportionate share of traffic fatalities and therefore helped prioritize investments.
Council and staff celebrated the recognition and said the work will continue, including strengthening data quality and processes across departments.
