Council commends Oklahoma City Police Foundation for wellness support to department

Master Sergeant Katie Burnett, a member of the department’s wellness unit, recounted being shot during a patrol traffic stop in 2010, describing the physical and family impacts of the trauma and explaining how the department’s wellness unit takes a holistic approach — mental, emotional, physical and spiritual — to help employees and their families navigate crises. Burnett credited the Police Foundation as among the unit’s key community partners.
Chief (Corley) and others on the dais described the foundation as a nonprofit incorporated in 2023 to support Oklahoma City police employees broadly — uniformed officers and civilian staff — with a focus on wellness programs, family assistance and emergency support. Examples cited in the resolution included assistance with medical equipment and support after a tornado.
Councilman Stonecipher introduced the resolution; the council approved it unanimously.
The resolution text recognizes the foundation’s donations and “support of the Oklahoma City Police Department wellness unit and the assistance the wellness unit provides to both uniformed officers and civilian employees of the department.” The council’s action formally thanks the foundation and signals continued municipal recognition of outside philanthropic support for employee wellness.
