Councilors discussed whether the ordinance should explicitly state the mayor is automatically one of the two elected officials or whether language allowing the mayor to serve or appoint a designee provides needed flexibility. Ultimately the council approved the ordinance as drafted and also suspended rules to pass the change at the same meeting.
The ordinance passed on a roll call vote. Staff said changes will be reflected in committee appointment processes going forward.
