Board recognizes Addition Financial donation, national student contest rankings and custodial certifications

The Orange County School Board used part of its March 11 meeting for recognitions and partner updates.
Addition Financial presented a contribution to the Orange County Public Schools Foundation. Nora Rodriguez Patterson, chief communications officer at Addition Financial, said the credit union’s school debit card program generated nearly 2,000,000 transactions last year, yielding “a total donation of almost $60,000.” Patterson said the program has donated “over a hundred and $8,050,000 dollars” back to the foundation since its inception as she presented the check to the board.
Khan Academy representatives recognized several OCPS high schools for national contest rankings in Khan Academy’s winter contest (December 2–January 17). Elizabeth Hadley and Betsy Leese from Khan Academy said Innovation High School ranked fourth in the country for SAT reading and writing preparation; Lake Nona High School ranked fifth in that category. In financial literacy, Edgewater High School ranked first nationally; Evans High School ranked second and Freedom High School ranked fifth.
The board also recognized 42 custodial staff members who completed Florida School Plant Management Association (FSPMA) certification. Carlos Mapus, custodial services director, told the board the FSPMA program is a seven‑week course meeting three days per week for three hours per day and includes training on cleaning operations and leadership. The board praised custodians’ contributions to safe, clean learning environments and took group photographs.
Speakers at the recognitions included Addition Financial, Khan Academy representatives and custodial services staff. The recognitions were ceremonial and did not require formal board action beyond acceptance of the presentation and public acknowledgment.
