Committee adopts substitute urging pedestrian bridge near Milby High School be built and named for student killed by train

Alvarado said the bridge would address safety concerns at one of many freight rail lines that cut through the community. “It was their wish that no child should have to risk life and limb by crossing hazardous train tracks just to get to school,” the senator said.
Kathy Green of AARP registered support but did not testify in person; no opposition testimony was recorded. The committee adopted the substitute and reported SCR 25 favorably to the calendar with a 9–0 roll-call vote; the substitute urges the Houston city council to construct a pedestrian bridge and name it for Sergio Ivan Rodriguez.
