The Georgia Senate Rules Committee on Tuesday heard short presentations on a long list of Senate bills — covering topics including school safety, veterans' cost-of-living adjustments, literacy, charter-school approvals, cemetery protections and state property redevelopment — and approved a motion to advance the group to the full Senate by unanimous voice vote.
Committee members said the agenda included roughly 50–60 bills and several resolutions. Senator Anna Anavitarte, who opened the bill presentations, described Senate Bill 17 as “Ricky and Alyssa's law,” calling it “the greatest school security bill in the building.” Other items discussed included measures addressing Delta-8 regulation, a veterans cost-of-living index, an early-literacy bill the sponsor said removes an ineffective reading tool, a bill to treat adopted children the same as biological children for birth-certificate purposes, and a measure to streamline title-transfer procedures for manufactured homes.
The breadth of topics presented reflected a mix of agency bills, education and public-safety proposals, and measures tied to constituent concerns. Senate Resolution 309, included on the list, would — if ratified by voters — require a two-thirds vote of both houses before any new tax credit could be enacted, a proposal the committee described as a potential constitutional amendment that would change how new tax credits are authorized.
After the presentations, Senator Auerz moved to advance the listed measures; Leader Gooch seconded. The chair declared the motion carried by voice vote, saying, “Motion carries unanimous.” The committee recorded no roll-call vote in the transcript and recessed after the action.
The committee’s approval sends the listed bills and resolutions to the Senate floor for further consideration. The chair noted the committee typically handles dozens of bills at this stage of the session; he said this year’s list was smaller than in some prior years but still substantial. The transcript contains brief explanations from many sponsors but no recorded roll-call on the bundle vote.
Looking ahead, the bills advanced by the Rules Committee will be scheduled for floor action under the Senate calendar process; timing for floor debate or final votes was not specified during the meeting.
