Panel advances bill to let nurses perform intrauterine insemination under physician supervision

Representative Scott Hilton presented House Bill 329 to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, saying the measure would allow a nurse to administer intrauterine insemination under the direction and supervision of a physician who must be physically present on-site. The committee voted unanimously to advance the bill.
Hilton said the bill responds to families seeking fertility care and cited a constituent, Susie Snyder, a nurse who practices artificial insemination. “This bill here makes it easier for those folks,” Hilton said, explaining that many states have the same allowance and that the physician must be on site during the procedure.
Hilton also said the bill was reviewed by obstetrician-gynecologists and other health groups before reaching the committee. Senator Orrock moved a “do pass” recommendation and Senator Halborn seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
