“We're not requesting money. We're here to offer money,” Hughes said, adding that Mid South RC&D has awarded grants to projects in Montgomery County before and represents the county on its board through a member named Regina.
Hughes said the organization funds nonprofit organizations, subunits of government and schools, and that it has not historically funded many projects inside Montgomery County public schools. She cited the Bayer Exploration Center as a recent local recipient. Hughes said Mid South RC&D’s local office is in Montgomery and that the organization serves seven other counties in the region.
Katie Smith, communications specialist for Mid South RC&D, said the group’s website lists grant priorities and application information and encouraged potential applicants to review materials online or contact the office for questions.
Meeting participants were told to coordinate applications through Regina, who serves on Mid South RC&D’s board as the Montgomery County representative. No formal action or vote on county funding was taken during the discussion.
Hughes said the organization is open to partnerships when applicants do not have full funding, and that Mid South RC&D can provide matching support for eligible projects. She invited county staff and community organizations to contact the group for more information about priorities and application deadlines.
