The Logansport Board of Public Works and Safety voted March 12, 2025, to place Logansport Police Officer Cody Scott on administrative leave without pay while criminal proceedings run their course.
Police Chief Cody Yach told the board that the department notified the Indiana State Police and placed Scott on administrative leave after an incident on Jan. 19, 2025, and that the Department of Child Services also investigated. "Officer Scott was placed on administrative leave and Indiana State Police were notified and began investigating the incident," Yach said.
Yach said the Indiana State Police forwarded their report and Department of Child Services records to the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office. Carroll County Prosecutor Nicholas McLellan was later assigned as a special prosecutor and requested criminal charges. "On 03/07/2025, I was notified by the city attorney of said request by Mr. McLellan," Yach said.
The board approved a motion to place Scott on administrative leave without pay under the authority cited in the meeting as "36-8-3-4 subsection n." The motion passed on a roll-call vote: Levi Jones, yes; Jacob Palmasol, yes; Chris Martin, yes.
Yach said the Logansport Police Department will conduct an internal investigation for possible policy violations after the criminal case is complete, and that the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) had been notified about the matter. "Their involvement is the decertification of their law enforcement powers," he said, referring to ILEA procedures.
No council action was taken on discipline beyond the administrative leave; the board directed the administrative leave to remain in effect until the criminal proceedings conclude.
The board did not specify a trial date during the meeting; Yach said Scott and his wife had turned themselves in and posted bond. The city attorney identified the relevant municipal/civil authority during the vote as "36-8-3-4 subsection n."
