The fire-code measure, which the rules and legislative committee had placed on the Dec. 10, 2024 agenda with a favorable recommendation, had been deferred 90 days to ensure the ordinance was available for public inspection before final action. Commissioners moved and seconded the adoption and then approved the resolution by a roll-call vote of 18 ayes and 0 nays.
County staff opened a public hearing on the code and invited members of the public to speak; no one addressed the commission on the item during the hearing. The county clerk conducted the roll call before the vote and the mayor presided.
The adoption replaces the county's prior fire-code reference with the 2021 International Fire Code; the commission record shows the change was approved as presented. Minutes show the earlier 90-day deferral was made specifically to allow public access to the proposed code language before a final vote.
The code will be applied and enforced through existing county enforcement channels once county staff complete any implementing administrative steps specified by the resolution. The county did not provide a separate timetable for implementation during the meeting.
