Brad Carter, identifying himself as past president of the Alabama Association of Assessing Officials (AAAO), invited commissioners to welcome roughly 200 attendees at the AAAO district meeting scheduled "this Thursday"; he said about 35 counties would be represented and that roughly 33 rooms were booked at the Holiday Inn in Clanton. "We call it the AAAO," Carter said.
County staff reported a $500 sponsorship request for the upcoming peach festival, which commissioners described as an annual event that celebrates farmers and harvesters. The commission also noted a forthcoming proclamation for sexual assault awareness, to be presented the next night by Gina Whatley.
The airport authority notified the county of two nominees to replace Mark McKinnon (deceased): Trey Katon and Keith Collins; commissioners were asked to consider the selection. Staff also distributed a memorandum proposing a janitorial employee pay increase after an evaluation and presented a quote for cleaning the courthouse cooling tower (TriplePoint) that is within maintenance budget and will be placed for approval.
The commission reviewed a three-page fundraising policy staff provided and discussed establishing a separate Venmo account for fundraising deposits to keep funds segregated. Commissioners expressed support for separating any Venmo receipts into a distinct account so the collections are auditable and not tied to other county accounts.
Other small items included a deferred parks grill quote to the next meeting, a note that certain positions are posted on the county job list, and a request from the revenue department to refund monies related to an erroneous tax sale caused by a mapping/deed error; staff said documentation had been provided to justify the refund.
