Commission to consider road-material hauling resolution after resident raises chronic flooding on County Road 356

The Chilton County Commission introduced a resolution request for the road department to haul 15 to 20 loads of material from county property on State Road 145 for use at Higgins Ferry and Manuka Park, with hauling costs reimbursed to the county gasoline fund using a portion of an already budgeted general fund transfer.

The request was presented as a cleanup/maintenance action and the commission indicated the item should have been on a prior agenda; no vote was taken during the session.

During public comment, resident Robert Benyon complained about a persistent, deep pool of water where County Road 356 runs to County Road 9, describing the pool as "about this deep in water year round" and saying it has been an ongoing problem he has raised previously. Benyon said the water fills after rain and noted heavy traffic during Church of God campground events. He also asked the commission to resurface portions of County Road 53 near his home and sought clarification about rules for placing mobile homes/trailers on rural property.

Commission staff and other commissioners directed Benyon to the county's online complaint page so he could upload photos and create a record. Commissioners also discussed a resolution requesting department heads to come before the commission to present road service requests so the commission could prioritize work across the county.

Commissioner Bone asked staff to place proposed hires for the road department (Chris Dodd Sr. and Kevonte/Kavonte Robinson) on the next meeting agenda for consideration. All road-related motions were introduced for future consideration; no formal votes were recorded at the meeting.
