Clear Lake proclaims January 2025 Human Trafficking Awareness Month; local advocate describes services

The proclamation cited the global scale of trafficking and the need for local awareness. Jessica Layton, the anti-human-trafficking advocate for Lake Family Resource Center, thanked the council for the proclamation and described the center’s role in helping survivors and providing crisis services.
“Awareness leads to action,” Layton said, and she encouraged residents to learn signs of trafficking, support organizations that assist survivors, and report suspicious activity to law enforcement.
Layton told the council that over the last five years the Lake Family Resource Center had helped more than 100 survivors and provided more than 8,000 services, and she described the center’s 24-hour hotline, advocacy and accompaniment services.
