Clearlake approves senior center irrigation and landscaping contract funded by CDBG grant

The Clearlake City Council unanimously authorized the city manager to execute a contract for the senior center landscape irrigation project and to approve up to 10% in additional unforeseen contract amendments. Staff said the project is funded by a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
“Lehman is the apparent low bidder at $149,000,” the Public Works presenter said during the bid report, adding the city solicited bids from Case Excavation, Lehman Construction, Granite Construction and HD Excavation. Staff also noted the project had been publicly rebid after receiving no responses earlier and that the city worked with the Department of Housing and Community Development to use an informal bid process.
Council members asked for bid documentation to be included in meeting reports. During discussion about scope, staff said the landscaping work will focus mostly on grading, discing and hydroseeding after installing the irrigation system.
Resident Joyce Overton urged protection of walnut trees near the senior center and asked that irrigation heads and splitters be installed to route water around trees. “I just really wanna make sure that that happens,” she said, asking staff to preserve the trees during irrigation installation.
Vice Mayor Slooten moved to approve the contract; Council Member Hooten seconded. The motion passed by unanimous vote.
