Clearlake approves $437,626 contract for 2025 citywide striping project

The Clearlake City Council on Tuesday unanimously awarded a $437,625.50 contract to Crisp Company for the 2025 citywide striping project and authorized the city manager to approve up to 10% in additional unforeseen contract amendments.
City staff told the council the work will include thermoplastic and paint striping on major streets and intersections. “City council is being asked to approve a contract for the 2025 citywide striping project and authorize the city manager to approve up to 10% for additional unforeseen contract amendments,” the Public Works construction project manager told the council during the presentation.
Staff said the project will use thermoplastic on Old Highway 53 and Lakeshore Drive, paint on Olympic Drive (with plans to switch Olympic to thermoplastic after a design project), and will include school intersections and the Dam Road intersection. Bids were opened on January 16; competing bidders included Crisp Company, Central Striping Service and Specialized Pavement Markings. According to staff, Crisp Company was the apparent lowest responsible bidder at $437,625.50.
The presentation noted the project will be funded by Measure V. During public comment, resident Margaret Garcia asked whether a map showing specific striping locations was available; staff repeated the list of major roadways but did not provide a street‑level map during the hearing and told Garcia she could get more information afterward.
Vice Mayor Slooten moved to approve the contract and Council Member Downey seconded; the motion passed by unanimous vote.
The work is scheduled to begin after contract execution; staff authorized the city manager to approve contract amendments up to 10% to cover unforeseen conditions.
