The Inspectional Services Department reported to the Lawrence City Board of Health that two businesses underwent tobacco-permit suspensions earlier in the review period and that compliance checks for February were not conducted.
According to the department report, Del Pueblo Supermarket (doing business as JGB) at 576 Silver Street served a one-day suspension and Areas Market at 66 Parker Street served a seven-business-day suspension. Cesar, the staff member reporting, said he was present on the first day of the one-day suspension and that both suspensions were carried out without incident; during a follow-up inspection Areas Market had no tobacco products on the premises at the time of inspection.
The department said it continues to provide education to establishments to align them with the local regulation adopted on Dec. 10 and that it did not perform compliance checks in February.
