The School Town of Speedway Board of Trustees acknowledged receipt of an exemplary governance award and noted $215,494.60 in grants to the district during its March meeting.
Board members were presented with an exemplary governance award, which staff described as the highest award a school board can earn; staff said the district has earned the award in five of the past six years and will be honored at the 2025 fall conference.
Grants and community fundraising The board formally acknowledged $215,494.60 in grants received by the district. In other community‑support remarks, presenters thanked the Speedway Lions Club for an annual pancake breakfast led by Lion John Disney that generated more than $5,000 and noted that the local Scholarships for Speedway fundraising exceeded $40,000 in pledges, with receipts expected to bring the total closer to $43,000–$45,000. Staff said combined community donations and fundraising in recent weekends totaled roughly $50,000 for student scholarships and supports.
Why it matters The award recognizes board governance practices and the grants and community fundraising provide direct support for district programs and student scholarships. Board members thanked community organizations and donors for supporting students.
Next steps Staff said the district will receive a physical award and that grant funds will be processed according to district accounting procedures; trustees encouraged continued community engagement.
