Glynn County schools announce superintendent Dr. Spence will step down; interim superintendent named April 1

During closing announcements at the March 11 Glynn County Board of Education meeting, the chair told the public that this month will be Superintendent Dr. Spence's last month leading Glynn County Schools after a 35-year career.

The chair said, "Beginning April 1, Mr Blackerby will be the interim superintendent until July 1 when this contract will be, will begin as superintendent with no interim." Board members publicly thanked Dr. Spence for his service; one board member said, "He will be remembered as an effective and great leader. You helped guide us through COVID," and another recalled being his student decades earlier.

Dr. Spence addressed the board, saying, "Thank you. And thank you board for giving me a chance. I never thought I would have this opportunity, but thank you for giving me a chance.
