Council approves resolution backing Founders Grounds' liquor permit transfer to new Main Street location

The Speedway Town Council on March 10 approved Resolution 2025-05, a written municipal memorialization required as part of the transfer of an alcohol permit for Founders Grounds Coffee Company LLC to a new Main Street location.
Town Manager Grant Kleinhans said Founders Grounds plans to relocate from its current facility to the Wilcox building on the corner of 16th and Main and that the resolution approves the transfer of the existing license to the new location. "Exhibit A lists all the requirements that Jeff has agreed to as the owner, and then he also provided the existing or the new floor plan for the new location, which is also an attachment that needs to go to the state," Kleinhans said. He added that a letter will be signed by President Nick Sturgeon and submitted with the resolution to the state.
Counselor Sarah Gardner moved to approve Resolution 2025-05; Counselor Sean Harold seconded. The vote was 3-0 in favor. Kleinhans told the council that the business had not previously been able to fully use its license at the prior location because of excise concerns over an opening at the bottom of a stairwell; he said the new space will allow expanded services and hours.
The motion directs staff to finalize the documentation and submit the signed resolution and attachments to the state alcohol regulatory agency.
