Glynn County honors two seniors as 2025 STAR students; one advances to Region 11 competition

The Glynn County Board of Education on March 11 recognized two senior students as Glynn County’s 2025 STAR students: Drew Davis of Brunswick High School and Mallory Mitchell of Glenn Academy.

The STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) program honors outstanding high school seniors and the teachers who most influenced their academic development. At the Brunswick Woman's Club staff recognition luncheon in February, Davis and Mitchell were named county winners and their teachers were named STARS teachers: Mr. John Hall (Brunswick High) and Dr. Heath Horton (Glenn Academy).

Drew Davis, identified himself during the board meeting and said, "I was a star student selected from Brunswick High School. I selected mister John Hall as my star teacher, who unfortunately couldn't be here today. I chose him due to the way he teaches things, it just clicks with me, I just understand it. In the future, I plan to attend Georgia Tech where I will study Electrical Engineering. Thank you."

Mallory Mitchell told the board she was the STAR student from Glenn Academy and said, "I chose Doctor. Horton to be my star teacher. It's no wonder that she's been selected so many times. She's just such an excellent teacher and I so thoroughly enjoyed my time with her as her student in her AP class last year." Mitchell also thanked Dr. Horton for being "willing to help them learn anything" and said she plans to attend the University of Doreen Moorhead Honors College next year to study biology.

Context: Mallory Mitchell will represent Glynn County at the Region 11 STAR event this month; if she wins at the regional level she could be considered for the state-level Page Foundation Star Banquet in April.
