District staff told the Garfield Heights board on Monday they recommend approving a four-year, locked-price electric agreement with NRG to reduce exposure to expected summer price increases.
A staff member said the district secured pricing just before tariff adjustments and recommended the board approve a four-year contract at the next meeting. “We have recommended to lock in electric prices, because it's going to go up significantly moving into the summer. We actually got our price before they adjusted with tariffs on March 4,” the presenter said.
Staff said they will attach the contract to the agenda and circulate it to trustees for review ahead of the scheduled vote. A board member offered to scan and distribute the contract document for review. No formal vote on the contract occurred at the work session.
The agreement was presented as a risk-management step intended to smooth utility costs over multiple years; staff said they expect the locked rate to save money relative to market increases.
