Garfield Heights staff on Monday described a restructuring in human-resources staffing that will convert a vacant HR assistant role into a new human-resources coordinator position with expanded responsibilities.
A district presenter said the role is intended to handle onboarding, offboarding and a broader set of HR tasks that more closely resemble coordinator-level duties. “It is a new position. We usually have the assistant for that position. We are looking to have this person to do a little bit more. It's almost an entry-level HR position, to assist with onboarding, offboarding,” the presenter said.
The presenter and board members clarified the change will not add staff headcount: the assistant vacancy will be filled with the coordinator title and duties. “So it is not an additional position,” staff said. The pay difference was described as limited and driven largely by the title and responsibility changes.
Board members asked why the change was being made and whether the district had previously operated without the position; staff confirmed the assistant role has been a vacancy and the redesign is intended to better match duties to title and to create a career path that can help develop future HR leadership.
No formal vote occurred at the work session; staff said they will finalize the job description and proceed through normal hiring procedures.
