Pittsylvania County schools name Jennifer Andrews principal at Gretna Elementary

Dr. Jessica Jones, superintendent, recommended Jennifer Andrews to serve as principal of Gretna Elementary School, and the board approved the appointment by unanimous roll-call vote.
Jones told the board the district interviewed several candidates and “one rose to the top,” describing Andrews’s background: 16 years of teaching experience in Campbell County, two years at Gretna Middle School, two years at Gretna Elementary teaching kindergarten, one year teaching special education, six years teaching second grade and four most recent years as assistant principal. Jones said Andrews holds a B.S. from Radford University in interdisciplinary studies in elementary education and a master's degree from Lynchburg College. Jones said Andrews will begin “next year.”
A motion to accept the superintendent’s recommendation was made and seconded; the board approved the appointment in a roll-call vote with all named members recorded as voting yes: Mr. Fitzgerald; Mr. Henderson; Miss Merrick; Mr. Mills; Mr. Moon; Mr. Shields; and Mr. Dodds.
The board discussed the recommendation briefly before voting. The meeting transcript shows Andrews was in the audience with students at the time Jones delivered the recommendation; Andrews did not speak during the appointment discussion. The board did not record an effective date beyond “beginning next year.”
