Kings County approves pilot food-truck program for employees beginning in April

The Kings County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a pilot Food Truck Vendor Program that will invite mobile food vendors to park on county property on a rotating schedule starting in April 2025.

Giselle Goite (administrative analyst, Kings County Administration) presented the plan, which calls for trucks to be scheduled every third Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., beginning April and running as a trial through September 2025. The application process will ensure vendor compliance with local regulations; vendors will pay employees directly and the county does not expect a fiscal impact. The approval included rules and regulations for vendors and a waiver and release of liability.

Several vendors attended the meeting and addressed the board. Andre Elizondo, owner-operator of Eldest Mobile Bistro, and Edgar of Kati's Kitchen described local experience and interest in participating. The administration said staff worked with community development and risk management to identify multiple approved locations on county property and will evaluate the pilot after September.

Supervisor Joe Neves moved approval; Supervisor Richard Valle seconded. The roll-call vote was five in favor.

Clarifying details provided during the meeting included that the county employs roughly 6,170 people and that the program will be advertised on county channels with an online application process. Ending: Staff will evaluate the trial program in September 2025 and report back with recommendations on continuation or expansion.
