Decatur City staff on Monday presented a proposal to buy a KeyStrak jaw crusher for $498,640 to process concrete and other demolition material at the city landfill.
Wanda Tiley, landfill and recycling supervisor, told the City Council work session that contractors have asked to dispose of soil, vegetative debris and concrete, and that burying concrete “is just not an option” if the city wants the landfill to remain viable. Sean McGeary of CrusherWorks described the KeyStrak jaw crusher as a low‑fuel, low‑maintenance machine with a non‑stop system that can pass metal and remove rebar with an overband magnet.
